I began by purchasing the two hibiscus shrubs at $15 each - I decided they should flank each side of the bed. This weekend I dug out the bed area, and refilled it with 2 bags of soil. The area was
full of 2 things: clay, and construction debris (including nails and all of the broken glass from Katrina). A photo is attached.
I still have to plan the rest of the plantings - since we don't "finish" until July 4th - I am considering doing some things from seeds....what do you think??

I have added some more plants - 2 calla lillies, an orange bird of paradise, and some misc. smaller plants.
I have also decided to make this a memorial garden - we lost our 14 1/2 yr old dog Bandit on Monday. We we got home from the vet, I went outside and dug - it helped calm me down. So my garden is Bandit's memorial garden, I will add a small memorial stone (I will not count this as part of my $200), and I will plant around it. I have another picture to send in, I will mail it to Jill.
